Hello, all! Welcome to the last week of February and the beginning of March! Hopefully it brings us some more pleasant weather. It is "Read Across America" week, so I plan to have some fun Dr. Suess themed snacks during reading this week. Here is our week at a glance:
This week in academics: Math: This week we will continue working on Topic 11 (solving word problems using the four operations). We should be testing on this topic by Thursday. Reading: We are going to be continuing our Mystery Books Unit this week. Students are really enjoying our first A to Z Mysteries book The Falcon's Feathers. We are studying the parts of a mystery and how to read like detectives. Writing: This is our last week to perfect our persuasive writing piece writing before our Writing Prompt Assessment this quarter. Students have been working hard and I hope it shows next week on their assessments. Science: We are starting to introduce our "Weather" unit in science. We talked about clouds last week and will continue that discussion this week by making the types of clouds and discussing their purposes. Club Meetings this week: Monday: Cocoa Cafe Tuesday: After School Actors Wednesday: Cocoa Cafe, Fitness Club, Coding/LEGO Club Thursday: Good News Club, 3D Club Friday: Cocoa Cafe

We had a blast at our Friendship Party on Friday. Thank you, parents, for sending in Valentines, Valentines boxes, and yummy treats for the class. I appreciate your help in making the parties so wonderful! Here are some pictures of the fun: This week:
Math: Students did well on the Topic 9 test last week. We started Topic 10 in math and will continue with that this week. It is only 3 lessons long, so we will be reviewing and testing by the end of the week! Writing: We are continuing to work on our persuasive writing unit. Students are doing a great job stating their opinions and using evidence and reasoning to convince others! Reading: I am very excited to be starting our new unit in reading this week: Mystery Book Club! We kicked off the unit on Friday by investigating a mystery in our very own classroom. We will be reading books from the A to Z Mysteries series as a class.
