We started a new Social Studies unit on Monday. It is all about conflict resolution. This week, students will be participating in a few different team-building activities to learn more about conflict resolution. On Monday, they worked to save Fred. They had to get a life saver out from underneath a cup (Fred's boat) and get the life saver onto Fred (a gummy worm) using ONLY paper clips as their tools. They worked great as teams and many of them did, in fact, save Fred! Ask your child how their team worked to save Fred!

I didn't get a chance to post on our website during our first couple of days of school. We were just too busy having fun and getting to know one another. We did some different team-building activities as a class and in groups to build our community in the classroom. The kids did such a great job participating and supporting one another. I am so excited to see how they support each other throughout the year.
One of the activities we completed was a chain building activity. The students were in groups of about four or five and they were given construction paper. The goal was to make the longest chain, whoever had the longest chain after our six minute challenge was the winner! All teams did a great job strategizing and working together. Here is a picture of the winning team. Ask your child if they remember what their team's strategy was! We had a fantastic day learning about and viewing the solar eclipse! The students were so excited and interested in this rare and amazing event. I stressed to them how lucky they are to be able to see the eclipse at such a young age. We made a craft that showed us how the earth, moon, and sun are related and what happens during an eclipse. Make sure to ask your child what they learned about the eclipse today! :)
